    Housing Discrimination - Fair Housing

    The Fair Housing Act secures individuals from discrimination when they are renting or buying a home, getting a mortgage, seeking housing assistance, or engaging in other housing-related activities.

    The Fair Housing Act forbids discrimination in housing due to the fact that of:

    What Is Prohibited?

    In the Sale and Rental of Housing:

    It is unlawful discrimination to take any of the following actions because of race, color, faith, sex, disability, familial status, or national origin:

    - Refuse to rent or sell housing.
    - Refuse to negotiate for housing.
    - Otherwise make housing not available.
    - Set various terms, conditions or opportunities for sale or rental of a house.
    - Provide a person various housing services or facilities.
    - Falsely deny that housing is offered for inspection, sale or rental.
    - Make, print or publish any notification, statement or advertisement with respect to the sale or leasing of a residence that indicates any preference, constraint or discrimination.
    - Impose various prices or rental charges for the sale or rental of a house.
    - Use different credentials requirements or applications, or sale or rental requirements or treatments, such as income requirements, application requirements, application costs, credit analyses, sale or rental approval treatments or other requirements.
    - Evict a tenant or an occupant's guest.
    - Harass a person.
    - Fail or delay efficiency of maintenance or repair work.
    - Limit benefits, services or centers of a home.
    - Discourage the purchase or rental of a residence.
    - Assign a person to a particular structure or neighborhood or section of a structure or community.
    - For profit, persuade, or try to persuade, property owners to sell their homes by suggesting that people of a specific protected attribute will move into the community (blockbusting).
    - Refuse to offer or discriminate in the terms or conditions of property owners insurance due to the fact that of the race, color, faith, sex, special needs, familial status, or national origin of the owner and/or residents of a residence.
    - Deny access to or membership in any numerous listing service or property brokers' company.
    In Mortgage Lending:

    It is illegal discrimination to take any of the following actions based on race, color, faith, sex, special needs, familial status, or nationwide origin:

    - Refuse to make a mortgage loan or provide other financial help for a dwelling.
    - Refuse to supply details regarding loans.
    - Impose different terms or conditions on a loan, such as various interest rates, points, or fees.

    Harassment:
